On Sunday (Sept. 3) afternoon, Ashland University's men's soccer team lost a 3-2 decision to visiting Millersville at Ferguson Field.
The Eagles are 0-2 on the young 2023 season, while the Marauders played their first game of the fall on Sunday.
NOTABLES
- Following a scoreless first half, the Marauders broke the tie in the 54th minute when Bob Hennessey scored in front on a cross from Zander Leik.
- After a Millersville red card, the Eagles were a man up for nearly 30 minutes to end regulation. In the 75th minute, Ashland broke through and knotted the score at 1 when fifth-year midfielder Oliver Whaley bent a right-to-left cross to junior midfielder Sam Jordan for the equalizer.
- Then, in the 80th minute, junior midfielder Rodri Fernandez potted the go-ahead goal in front of the Millersville net on a rebound of a blocked Eagle shot.
- The Marauders quickly responded, re-tying the contest in the 82nd minute on a caromed goal by Mike Kreider. Then, in the 87th minute, Hennessey scored his second goal of the game to put Millersville ahead for good (assist to Connor Fiadino).
- Ashland had a 15-11 shots advantage on Sunday, and led in corner kicks, 8-7.
