The 2023 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships began on Wednesday (May 3) at the Dwight Schar Athletic Complex and Ferguson Field, and the women's and men's hammer throws began the scoring for Ashland University's teams.

In the women's hammer, Eagles took three of the top six spots. Sophomore
Kelsey Kinsley was the conference runner-up at 56.03 meters/183-feet-10, fifth-year
Carrol Pauley was third at 55.48 meters/182-feet-0, and sophomore
Kaylyn Barnette took sixth at 51.78 meters/169-feet-11.

Brock Janowicz was seventh in the men's hammer with a top mark of 58.44 meters/191-feet-9. That was good enough for an improved provisional mark for the 2023 NCAA Division II Championships, May 25-27 in Pueblo, Colo.

- The multi events got underway on Wednesday, and junior Wyatt Cory is in second place in the men's heptathlon with 3,256 points through five events, and sophomore Jordan Hampton is eighth in the women's heptathlon with 2,355 points through four points.
- Through the first three events on each side, Ashland's women have 17 points and are in fourth place, and the AU men have two points and are in eighth place.
