Softball Loses Two League Games At Cedarville

On Saturday (April 8) at Cedarville, Ashland University's softball team lost both ends of a Great Midwest Athletic Conference doubleheader, 5-3 and 4-2.

The Eagles are 13-21 overall and 7-7 in the Great Midwest, and the Yellow Jackets are 14-16, 8-2.

Saturday's opener saw the Eagles score twice in the top of the second inning to take an early lead. Freshman second baseman Danielle Robbins' RBI infield single with the bases loaded plated the first AU run, then senior center fielder Lauren McMillin drew a bases-loaded walk for the second run.

Cedarville tied Game 1 with two runs in the fourth, then took the lead with three runs in the fifth. Senior right fielder Haylee Frost's RBI double in the sixth cut the Eagle deficit to the game's final margin.

In Game 2, Cedarville took a 4-0 lead with single runs in the second and fourth innings, and a two-spot in the fifth. Ashland scored twice in the sixth on back-to-back RBIs from junior catcher Jordyn Severns (ground out) and senior first baseman Cat Lohse (single).

NOTABLES
  • In Game 1, senior pitcher Kayla Ruperto (3-6) allowed nine hits, five runs and a walk and struck out two. Frost was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
  • Game 2 saw McMillin and sophomore designated player Cassidy Shaffer each collected two hits. Shaffer (3-4) yielded six hits and two runs in four innings.
