Ashland University's baseball team tuned up for the remaining eight regular-season games of 2023 on Tuesday (April 25) with a 13-7 win over Slippery Rock at Tomassi Stadium and Donges Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex.
The Eagles are 29-13 overall, 15-3 at home and on a three-game win streak. The Rock is 18-22.
Slippery Rock scored two runs in the top of the second inning to open the scoring, but the Eagles responded in the bottom of the frame when freshman right fielder
Andrew Ecleberry had an RBI groundout, junior second baseman
Devin Hukill added a run-scoring single and sophomore designated hitter
Cam Scott launched an RBI double.
In the third, sophomore shortstop
Jeremiah Cangelosi's RBI single made it a 4-2 game, but The Rock scored three times in the fourth to take the lead at 5-4. In the bottom of the fourth, Hukill's RBI single, an RBI hit-by-pitch drawn by sophomore center fielder
Cam Miller, and a run-scoring single from fifth-year third baseman
Seth Schroeder put AU back on top, 7-5.
Slippery Rock scored once in the fifth, and the Eagles quickly responded once again in the fifth. Redshirt freshman catcher
Collin Overholt's RBI double, redshirt freshman pitcher
Chris Franks' RBI fielder's choice and Miller's RBI groundout made it a 10-6 AU lead.
Sophomore first baseman
Sam Witt's leadoff home run in the sixth extended the lead to 11-6, then Schroeder's groundout and a balk plated two more runs in the seventh to make it a 13-6 game.
One more run for The Rock in the top of the eighth provided the final margin of victory.

- A balanced offensive attack which featured 14 hits was led by Miller (2-for-4, two RBIs, run scored), Schroeder (two RBIs), Cangelosi (2-for-3, RBI, run scored), Hukill (2-for-4, two RBIs, two runs scored) and Scott (2-for-2, double, RBI).
- Franks (1-1) earned his first collegiate victory after allowing two hits, a run and two walks and striking out two in 3 2/3 innings of relief.
- Ashland and Slippery Rock started playing each other in baseball in 1929.
