Eagles Split Saturday Twinbill, Take Three Of Four From Cavs

Continuing the quest for a North Division title in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, Ashland University's baseball team split a doubleheader at Walsh on Saturday (April 15) – losing 2-0 and winning 10-5.

The Eagles, winners of 13 of their last 17 games, move to 25-11 overall and 16-4 in the Great Midwest. Ashland is 1½ games behind first-place Northwood in the North, pending the outcome of the Timberwolves' second game with Malone on Saturday. The Eagles and Timberwolves will play a four-game set in Ashland on April 21-23.

Walsh is 18-14, 13-5.

Game 2 featured an opening five-run top of the first inning, punctuated by a three-run home run from redshirt freshman right fielder Chris Franks.

NOTABLES
  • In the second game, Franks was 1-for-1 with three runs scored, three RBIs and three walks to go with the homer. Both junior second baseman Devin Hukill and redshirt freshman third baseman Collin Overholt drove in two runs.
  • Sophomore right-hander Matt Hall (1-0) went 3 1/3 innings of relief for the victory, allowing three hits, two runs and two walks and striking out one.
