Five Nationals Marks Highlight Start Of Ball State, Tiffin Meets

Ashland University's men's and women's outdoor track and field athletes competed all over the Midwest on Friday (April 14), and they came away with five new and improved provisional marks for the 2023 NCAA Division II Championships, May 25-27 in Pueblo, Colo.
 
At the Tiffin Carnival, in the women's 4x100-meter relay, the quartet of senior Morgan Dennis, junior Alena Williams, sophomore Greta Barker and freshman Medgine Wojton improved upon its previous provisional time, finishing in second place in 46.61 seconds.
 
The men's high jump saw fifth-year Storm Elsesser win with a new provo of 2.07 meters/6-feet-9½, and freshman Jaycob Kolleda place third with a new provo of 2.04 meters/6-feet-8¼.
 
In the men's 110 hurdles, junior T.J. Skinner's 14.28 seconds in the preliminaries was a new provo, and sophomore D.J. Duncan's winning 14.35 seconds in the finals was the same.
 
NOTABLES
  • Also at Tiffin, freshman Nate Slater won the men's 800 run (1:55.13), and fifth-year Cheyanne Davis took the women's 400 dash (56.38 seconds).
  • Placing second were sophomore Sarah Masuoka in the women's pole vault (3.75 meters/12-feet-3½), sophomore Mia Gardner in the women's 400 dash (56.50 seconds), Skinner in the men's 110 hurdles (14.61 seconds), and the men's 4x400 relay of freshman Derrick Amapps, sophomore Colin Roberts, junior Jacob Pielech and sophomore Noah Wood (3:14.18).
  • Third-place finishes were turned in by Elsesser in the men's long jump (7.09 meters/23-feet-3ÂĽ), freshman Jade Avance in the women's 400 dash (56.73 seconds), and freshman Daylen Madison in the men's 800 run (1:51.74).
  • At the We Fly Challenge at Ball State, sophomore Brock Janowicz won the men's discus at 49.07 meters/161-feet-0 and was second in the men's hammer throw (54.78 meters/179-feet-9, while fifth-year Carrol Pauley was third in the women's hammer throw (53.60 meters/175-feet-10).
