In a matchup of two potential Midwest Regional tournament teams on Tuesday (April 11) at Harwell Baseball Field in Detroit, Mich., Ashland University's baseball team lost 5-4 in 10 innings to No. 12-ranked Wayne State.
The Eagles, 22-10 and winners of 10 of their last 13 games, had a 4-1 lead through 8½ innings on Tuesday. The Warriors, 25-4 and winners of 13 of their last 14 contests, scored three times in the bottom of the ninth inning and once in the 10
th to pull out the victory.
NOTABLES
- Redshirt freshman right fielder/pitcher Chris Franks launched a home run and was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, but took the relief loss in his first collegiate pitching appearance (two hits, one run, one walk in 2/3 of an inning).
- Fifth-year third baseman Seth Schroeder (2-for-4), sophomore first baseman Sam Witt (2-for-5, double, run scored) and sophomore shortstop Jeremiah Cangelosi (2-for-4, double, RBI, run scored) each had two hits for AU.
- Sophomore right-hander Matt Hall, in his first start of 2023, allowed four hits, a run and two walks and struck out six in 6 1/3 frames. In three appearances in the month of April, Hall has a save and a 1.59 earned-run average.
