The No. 1-ranked Ashland University women's basketball team improved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference early in 2023-24, following a 102-40 win at Walsh (2-3, 1-1) on Saturday (Dec. 2) afternoon.

Ashland has won 44 consecutive games dating back to the start of 2022-23, the fourth-longest such streak in NCAA Division II women's basketball history.

The Eagles put up a season-high in points, and their first triple-figure game of the new campaign. The 62-point win is Ashland's widest margin since a 65-point victory against Lake Superior State (99-34) on Feb. 1, 2020.

After an early 3-2 score in AU's favor, the Eagles scored the last 23 points of the opening quarter to take a 25-2 lead into the second. The scoring streak eventually ended at 30 points in a row, and by halftime, Ashland's lead was 52-10.

In the first 20 minutes, the Eagles made 71.4 percent from the field and hit 9-of-14 from 3-point range, and kept the Cavaliers to 17.2 percent from the floor and 0-of-10 from beyond the arc.

Ashland's lead going into the fourth quarter was 49 points at 72-23.

POST-GAME NUGGETS
- Five Eagles scored in double figures on Saturday afternoon – fifth-year guard Erin Daniels (17 points), junior point guard Morgan Yoder (12), fifth-year forward Annie Roshak (12), junior forward Zoe Miller (11) and junior forward Sarah McKee (10).
- Roshak now has 1,966 career points, and now is 34 points away from becoming the fifth player in program history to reach the 2,000-career-point plateau.
- The Eagles shot 65.5 percent from the field, 60 percent (15-of-25) from 3-point range, and 88.2 percent (15-of-17) from the free-throw line. Ashland recorded 25 assists on 36 made field goals.
- Junior forward Hayley Smith's 10 rebounds led the Eagles to a decided 49-23 rebounding margin. It is Smith's fourth double-digit carom game of 2023-24.
- Walsh was kept to 22.7 percent from the floor and 4-of-27 from beyond the arc.
- Ashland has won each of its last 26 games played in the month of December.
- The Eagles improve to 121-3 (.976) all-time as the No. 1 team in D-II, and 303-18 (.944) all-time as a ranked team in D-II.
