The No. 16-ranked Ashland University men's basketball team lost 98-83 at No. 23-ranked Ferris State on Sunday (Dec. 17) afternoon in Big Rapids, Mich.
A second consecutive loss leaves the Eagles at 6-2, while the Bulldogs at 8-2.
Ashland took an early 9-4 lead to force a Bulldog timeout a little more than three minutes into the contest. The two teams went back and forth – Ferris State with 3-point field goals and the Eagles at the free-throw line – and the Bulldogs had a 17-13 advantage when AU stopped play at the 12:33 mark of the first half.
After the score was knotted at 19-all, Ferris State scored five points in a row to regain the lead. A pair of free throws from freshman guard
Jordan Edwards pulled the Eagles even once again at 26-26, but a 7-2 FSU spurt led to another five-point spread.
The two teams went into the locker room with the Bulldogs leading 44-33 after Ferris State finished the half with an 11-1 run. Ashland turned the ball over seven times in the first half, and Ferris State cashed in with a dozen points.
In the second half, the Bulldogs scored 54 points, thanks in large part to a shooting percentage of 52.5 and an 8-of-17 showing from 3-point range.
