Eagle Men, Women Begin Indoor Season With Multiple Provisional Marks

Ashland University's indoor track and field teams opened the new season at both the Youngstown State Icebreaker and Saginaw Valley State Holiday Open on Friday (Dec. 1) – and many provisional marks for 2024 indoor nationals were the result.
 
At Saginaw Valley State, junior Cole LaRoche not only won the men's shot put at 16.50 meters, but also earned a provisional mark for the 2024 NCAA Division II Championships, March 8-9 in Pittsburg, Kan. Junior Sarah Masuoka won the women's pole vault at a provo distance of 3.83 meters, and sophomore Garrett Baker did the same in the men's pole vault at 5.20 meters.
 
In the men's weight throw, junior Jesse Houle was second with a new provo mark of 18.74 meters. In the women's weight throw, junior Kelsey Kinsley was third (17.83 meters) and freshman Molly Winner was fourth (17.00 meters) – both being new provo marks.
 
Junior Caden Morris won the men's long jump at 7.02 meters, freshman Matthew Noel tied for second in the men's high jump at 1.98 meters, and freshman McKayla Wymer tied for second in the women's pole vault at 3.68 meters.
 
At Youngstown State, junior D.J. Duncan ran a new provo time in the men's 60-meter hurdle prelims at 8.06 seconds, then bettered that in the finals at 7.93 seconds, finishing second. Junior Julian Griffin was third in the men's 60 hurdles with a provo time of 7.97 seconds.
 
Freshman Hailey Rios' women's 60 dash prelim time of 7.65 seconds was a provo, and so was her time of 7.58 seconds in finishing second in the finals.
 
Junior Mia Gardner's third-place finish of 56.70 seconds in the women's 400 dash was a provo time, and she combined with senior Elizabeth Adams, sophomore Jade Avance and junior Madison Stacey for a provo time and a second-place finish of 3:46.66 in the women's 4x400 relay.
 
Freshman Alexis Steward was second in the women's 200 dash (24.908 seconds), and Rios was third (24.909 seconds). Senior McKenna Woodruff took third in the women's mile run (5:19.82), sophomore Nate Slater was third in the men's mile run (4:23.23), and the men's 4x400 relay of junior Jacob Pielech, senior Brenden Jackson, junior Noah Wood and freshman Brian Turner was third in 3:17.26.
