On Friday (Jan. 20) at the Youngstown State Collegiate Invitational, two of Ashland University's men's and women's indoor track and field teams' top early-season performers improved upon previous provisional marks for the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, March 10-11 in Virginia Beach, Va.

In the women's weight throw, fifth-year
Carrol Pauley moved up the national ladder by finishing in second place with an improved provisional mark of 19.81 meters/65-feet-0. Junior
T.J. Skinner also finished second in the men's 60-meter hurdles, improving upon his previous provo time to 8.16 seconds.

Ashland's women's 4x400 relay team turned in a new provisional time on Friday, as freshman
Jade Avance, sophomore
Mia Gardner and seniors
Macy Creamer and
Cheyanne Davis won in 3:52.27.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Winning their respective events on Friday were junior Emma Liberatore in the women's high jump seeded (1.65 meters/5-feet-5), freshman Garrett Baker in the men's pole vault unseeded (4.50 meters/14-feet-9) and the men's 4x400 relay quartet of junior Brenden Jackson, sophomores Noah Wood and Colin Roberts, and freshman Jacob Pielech (3:20.97).
- Second-place finishes were turned in by sophomore Sarah Masuoka in the women's pole vault seeded (3.69 meters/12-feet-1ÂĽ) and Wood in the men's 400 dash (49.52 seconds).
- Ashland's third-place showings came from sophomore Colton Pinkerton in the men's 5,000 run (15:17.09), sophomore Brock Janowicz in the men's weight throw (17.43 meters/57-feet-2ÂĽ), sophomore Kelsey Kinsley in the women's shot put (13.35 meters/43-feet-9Âľ) and weight throw (17.81 meters/58-feet-5ÂĽ), junior McKenna Woodruff in the women's 800 run (2:19.10), and senior Storm Elsesser in the men's high jump seeded (1.96 meters/6-feet-5).
