Ashland University's men's basketball team had its nine-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday (Jan. 14) afternoon following a 74-45 loss at Walsh.
The Eagles are 11-5 overall and 7-2 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, and the Cavaliers are 10-6, 7-2 following their fifth consecutive victory. Ashland and Walsh both are 1½ games behind first-place Hillsdale (16-1, 9-1) in the conference.
WHAT HAPPENED
- The Cavaliers put up the first five points of the game, then extended their lead to 12-3 seven minutes into the contest. Walsh led 23-10 inside of 7½ minutes to go until halftime, but the Eagles came roaring back with 10 consecutive points to pull within three.
- Walsh's own 10-0 run late in the first half led the Cavaliers to a 35-22 lead at the break. The big statistical difference in the first 20 minutes was Walsh's 6-of-14 showing from the 3-point arc, and the Eagles were outrebounded, 24-14.
- The Cavaliers slowly extended their lead in the second half, as Ashland made just 26.9 percent of its shots from the field in the final 20 minutes.
THE WRAP-UP
- Redshirt freshman forward Maceo Williams led the Ashland offense with 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting.
- The Cavaliers got a double-double from Tim Smith Jr. (20 points, 11 rebounds), as they out-rebounded the Eagles, 47-32.

Ashland will return to the Sherrill Hudson Court at Kates Gymnasium on Thursday (Jan. 19) at 7:30 p.m. against Findlay (10-6, 5-3).
