For the second consecutive day at the UIndy Invitational, Ashland University's volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday (Sept. 3) – losing 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-17) to Missouri-St. Louis, then rallying for a 3-2 (25-14, 25-21, 25-17, 25-15, 15-10) victory over Bentley.
The Eagles return home at 4-5, and one of the big reasons why was junior libero
Katie Thompson's 34 digs in the win over Bentley. Those are the second-most in a match in Eagle volleyball history – to her 40 at Cedarville last year.
WHAT HAPPENED
- In addition to Thompson's big match, the win over the Falcons was highlighted by fifth-year outside hitter Erin Krupar's 21 kills, .390 hitting percentage, 17 digs and four block assists; and senior middle blocker Anna Krikke's 13 kills, .387 hitting percentage and three block assists.
- Sophomore outside hitter Makenna Belcher added 10 kills, 10 digs and four service aces; fifth-year senior Zoey Peck (34 assists) and freshman Elle McLoughlin (12) split the setting duties; and four Eagles had double-digit digs – Thompson, senior defensive specialist Stephanie Smith (18), Krupar and Belcher.
- The loss against UMSL saw Krupar finish with 10 kills, Peck with 29 assists, and Thompson (21) and Belcher (10) with double-digit digs.
