Ashland University's men's soccer team made a statement in a draw on Saturday (Aug. 27) afternoon, earning a 1-1 tie at No. 6-ranked Millersville.
In the first meeting all-time between the two teams, the new-look Eagles (0-0-1) took an early 1-0 lead, then kept the Marauders (1-0-1) off the scoreboard for the final 65-plus minutes.
Of Ashland's 11 starters on Saturday, only three had started a game for the program previously.
WHAT HAPPENED
- The Eagles jumped on top in the 23rd minute on a penalty kick, as fifth-year forward Haruki Kimura potted his first goal of the new campaign.
- Less than two minutes later, however, Millersville re-tied the game at 1 with its own tally – and the game remained at that score throughout the remainder of regulation.
THE WRAP-UP
- Sophomore goalkeeper Ty Bowden made six saves in the draw, as Millersville out-shot Ashland by a 13-8 count.
- The Marauders had a slight 7-6 advantage in corner kicks, and had 11 fouls to Ashland's 10.
