Eagle Volleyball Picked To Repeat As Great Midwest South Division Champ

The Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced its 2022 Volleyball Coaches Preseason Poll on Wednesday (Aug. 10) afternoon, and conference head coaches expect a lot from Ashland University this fall.

With 12 of 13 first-place votes, the Eagles have been picked to repeat as the Great Midwest South Division champions. Ashland has 72 total voting points, ahead of No. 2 Trevecca Nazarene (53 voting points, one first-place vote).

In the North Division, Hillsdale is the preseason favorite with 11 first-place votes and 83 voting points. No. 2 Findlay (71 voting points) and No. 3 Walsh (60 voting points) each received one first-place vote.

Ashland was 18-13 during the 2021 season, winning the South Division and reaching the conference tournament's championship match. The Eagles return six starters, including fifth-year outside hitter Erin Krupar, the reigning Great Midwest Player of the Year.

The Eagles' 2022 season begins on Aug. 26 with two matches in St. Paul, Minn., against Concordia-St. Paul and Winona State. Ashland opens Great Midwest play on Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Sherrill Hudson Court in Kates Gymnasium against Trevecca Nazarene. That will be the team's Type 1 Diabetes recognition match.
