The Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced its 2022 Volleyball Coaches Preseason Poll on Wednesday (Aug. 10) afternoon, and conference head coaches expect a lot from Ashland University this fall.

With 12 of 13 first-place votes, the Eagles have been picked to repeat as the Great Midwest South Division champions. Ashland has 72 total voting points, ahead of No. 2 Trevecca Nazarene (53 voting points, one first-place vote).

In the North Division, Hillsdale is the preseason favorite with 11 first-place votes and 83 voting points. No. 2 Findlay (71 voting points) and No. 3 Walsh (60 voting points) each received one first-place vote.

Ashland was 18-13 during the 2021 season, winning the South Division and reaching the conference tournament's championship match. The Eagles return six starters, including fifth-year outside hitter
Erin Krupar, the reigning Great Midwest Player of the Year.

The Eagles' 2022 season begins on Aug. 26 with two matches in St. Paul, Minn., against Concordia-St. Paul and Winona State. Ashland opens Great Midwest play on Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Sherrill Hudson Court in Kates Gymnasium against Trevecca Nazarene. That will be the team's Type 1 Diabetes recognition match.
