As a baseball season progresses, and winning continues, new standout performers can tend to emerge.
Such was the case with Ashland University's baseball team on Saturday (May 7) in Owensboro, Ky., as freshman left-hander
Marshall Leishman threw seven scoreless innings in the Eagles' 4-1 Game 2 win at Kentucky Wesleyan.
Ashland's win on Saturday came after a 6-1 Game 1 loss, and it gives the Eagles a mark of 31-17 overall and 22-10 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference through the regular season. The Panthers are 24-26, 20-12.
WHAT HAPPENED
- Leishman, in just his second start of the spring, improved to 2-0 and lowered his season earned-run average to 5.23 after allowing four hits, no runs and a walk and striking out five over seven innings. Senior closer Perry Bewley worked a perfect ninth for his ninth save of 2022.
- Of Ashland's 12 hits in the nightcap, three each were turned in by senior shortstop Austin Eifrid (3-for-5, double, RBI) and senior first baseman Micah Allen (3-for-4, double, two RBIs). Senior catcher Mike Flemming was 2-for-3 with a double.
