MASON, Ohio – On Day 2 of the 2022 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament at Prasco Park on Thursday (May 12) night, Ashland University's baseball team took a 9-3 loss to Kentucky Wesleyan.
The Eagles (32-18) will play Tiffin (29-18) in an elimination game on Friday (May 13) at 1:15 p.m. at Legacy Field at Prasco Park. The Panthers are 26-26.
Thursday night's game was the fifth meeting between Ashland and KWC in less than a week. The two teams split the four-game set in Kentucky to end the regular season.
WHAT HAPPENED
- In the top of the second inning, the Wildcats broke the scoreless tie with a two-run RBI single. Kentucky Wesleyan moved its lead to 3-0 in the top of the sixth following two AU errors on one play with two outs.
- The Panthers extended their advantage to 6-0 in the top of the seventh on a three-run home run, and they made it 9-0 in the eighth thanks to three run-scoring singles.
- Ashland got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth with three runs on RBIs singles from senior designated hitter Tim Zeller and senior first baseman Micah Allen, and a sacrifice fly from senior right fielder Dillan Smith.
- Senior left fielder/catcher Seth Schroeder was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Junior right-hander Josh Meyer (5-4) allowed five hits, six runs (four earned) and a walk and struck out five and seven innings.
