Trailing by a 12-6 count through three quarters, Ashland University's women's lacrosse team nearly pulled off an impressive late comeback at Findlay on Friday (April 8), but the Eagles ultimately lost to the Oilers, 12-10.
Both teams came into Friday's contest having won four of their last five games. The Eagles are 4-7 overall and 3-2 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, while the Oilers are 5-5, 4-0.
WHAT HAPPENED
- Ashland jumped on top 2-0 in the first 2:20 of the game, but Findlay countered with seven straight goals, and the Oilers would take an 8-3 advantage to halftime.
- Findlay took a six-goal lead into the final period, then the Eagles began to rally. Fourth-quarter goals from junior midfielder Natalie Sonntag, senior midfielder Cora Wilson, junior midfielder Cassady Becker and junior midfielder Madie Gash pulled AU to within two goals, but time ran out.
- The Eagles shut out the Oilers in the fourth quarter. That marks the second time in three games AU has kept an opponent scoreless in the final stanza.
- Sonntag, Wilson and Becker each scored two goals for Ashland, and sophomore goalie Jillian Rekulak made nine saves.
- Ashland had a 30-28 advantage in shots, and each team turned the ball over 17 times.
