To start the final weekend of 2022 season play, Ashland University's softball team swept Malone on the road on Friday (April 29), 2-1 and 6-5.

The Eagles improve to 11-22 overall and 5-15 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, and have gone 5-5 in the last 10 outings. The Pioneers are 6-24, 2-17.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Ashland scored the only runs it would need in Game 1 in the fifth and sixth innings. Junior third baseman Hailey Struckman's RBI double in the fifth was the first run of the contest, then freshman shortstop Maddy Burdette's RBI double in the sixth made it a 2-0 game.
- Junior pitcher Josie Duncan (8-17) allowed an unearned run in the seventh, but authored a complete-game seven-hitter with a walk and five strikeouts. Struckman was 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in the victory.
- In Game 2, the Eagles scored two runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings, and held on late for the sweep.
- Sophomore catcher Jordyn Severns (3-for-4, two runs), Struckman (2-for-4, double, two RBIs), Duncan (3-for-4, RBI) and junior left fielder Kaitlyn Carney (3-for-4, double, RBI) paced AU's 13-hit attack.
- Senior Hannah Fricke (3-5) allowed eight hits, five runs (four earned) and no walks and whiffed four in 6 1/3 innings, then Duncan got the last two outs for her first save of the spring.
