Softball Moves Home DH To Sandusky, Loses Two To KWC

SANDUSKY, Ohio – Ashland University's softball team was forced to move its home Great Midwest Athletic Conference doubleheader against Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday (April 14) to Sandusky's Space Force Parks, then the Eagles lost 8-1 and 9-1 decisions to the Panthers.
 
The Eagles are 6-17 overall and 0-10 in the conference, and KWC is 12-28, 5-7.
 
WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Panthers left the bases loaded in the top of the first inning of Game 1, then stranded two more in the top of the third and fourth. Through the first 5½ innings, Ashland and Kentucky Wesleyan combined for 15 runners left on base.
  • Ashland broke through in the bottom of the sixth on a solo inside-the-park home run from junior right fielder Lauren McMillin. Kentucky Wesleyan, however, put up eight runs in the top of the seventh and went on to victory.
  • McMillin was 2-for-3, as was junior left fielder Kaitlyn Carney. Freshman first baseman Lily Rockwell went 3-for-4, while senior center fielder Jamie Rutherford went 2-for-4.
  • Junior pitcher Josie Duncan (5-13) allowed 10 hits, eight runs (three earned) and a walk and struck out four.
  • In Game 2, the Panthers scored in the first (one), third (two), fourth (two) and fifth (four) innings. Ashland's run came in the bottom of the fifth on a Rutherford RBI single.
  • Duncan (5-14) went the first 4 2/3 innings, yielding eight hits, nine runs (eight earned) and three walks and whiffing five.
