Starting a four-game pre-Easter series with Walsh on Thursday (April 14) at Tomassi Stadium and Donges Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex, Ashland University's baseball team survived a 15-10 slugfest against the Cavaliers.
Â
The Eagles move to 20-10 overall and 12-5 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference after their 11
th win in the last 13 outings, while Walsh is 15-12, 7-7.
Â
"The wind was a major factor today," said Ashland head coach
John Schaly, "so it was a tough day for pitchers. We played great defense, made no errors."

WHAT HAPPENED
- The majority of the Eagles' offensive output on Thursday came in the fourth inning (six runs) and sixth inning (seven runs).
- In the fourth, both senior catcher Seth Schroeder (triple) and senior designated hitter Tim Zeller (home run) each drove in two runs. In the sixth, senior first baseman Micah Allen's two-run double and freshman second baseman Ian Sanders' three run homer were the big blows.
- Leading AU's 17-hit barrage were Sanders, who was 2-for-5 with two homers and four RBIs; senior shortstop Austin Eifrid (4-for-5, double, two RBIs), Allen (2-for-5, double, two RBIs), senior center fielder Sebastian Fabik (3-for-5, double, home run, RBI), senior right fielder Dillan Smith (3-for-5, double, triple), and Zeller (1-for-4, homer, two RBIs).
- "Our plan is to just play our game," said Sanders, who has at least one hit in 17 of his last 18 games. "Luckily, we got a win, and we need to get three more."
- "Even though the wind's blowing out, you still have to get the ball on the barrel," Schaly said. "We've been swinging the bats well of late with a lot of guys, top to bottom in the lineup. We feel we can score runs."
- Sophomore right-hander Justin Dyksma (4-1) won after allowing eight hits, four runs and three walks and striking out seven in six innings. Zeller tossed the last three frames for his second save of 2022, allowing three hits, two runs and no walks and whiffing six.
