Eagle Baseball Splits With Malone On Sunday, Wins Series

Ashland University's baseball team finished off a series win at Malone on Sunday (April 10) in Canton, Ohio, splitting a doubleheader to take three of four games from the Pioneers over a four-day span.

The Eagles lost Sunday's opener, 6-5, then won the nightcap, 5-1, to move to 18-10 overall and 11-5 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Pioneers are 13-18, 4-10.

Ashland enters Easter week having won nine of its last 11 outings.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • In Game 2, the Eagles scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth and seventh innings – which was more than enough for senior right-handed pitcher Jacob Harsany (5-1), who earned his second win of the series. Harsany allowed five hits, an unearned run and four walks and struck out eight in 6 2/3 innings, then another senior righty, Perry Bewley, got the last out to end the game.
  • Senior first baseman Micah Allen was 2-for-3 with a double, home run and three RBIs in the victory, and senior shortstop Austin Eifrid, senior catcher Seth Schroeder, and sophomore third baseman Devin Hukill each had two of AU's 10 hits in the nightcap.
  • The opener saw the Eagles score four runs in the top of the fourth, but, with the score knotted at 5-all going into the bottom of the seventh, the Pioneers scored the game-winning run one out away from extra innings.
  • Senior designated hitter Tim Zeller and senior centerfielder Sebastian Fabik each had two hits. Sophomore lefty Adam Schomburg (1-1) took the loss after the unearned run scored in the bottom of the seventh.

UP NEXT
The Eagles will briefly go out of conference play for a nine-inning game at Tomassi Stadium and Donges Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex on Tuesday (April 12) at 3 p.m. vs. Gannon (16-9).
