In the 2022 home opener at Ferguson Field on Sunday (March 13) afternoon, Ashland University's women's lacrosse team pulled to within a goal against Northern Michigan in the third quarter, but lost a 15-10 decision to the Wildcats.
The Eagles are 0-5, and NMU is 6-2.
Ashland scored a season-high number of goals in the loss.
WHAT HAPPENED
- Trailing 9-3 late in the first half, the Eagles began their comeback and extended it into the third quarter. Five consecutive goals put AU within a tally at 9-8, but Northern Michigan scored three straight to end the third up 12-8.
THE WRAP-UP
- Junior midfielder Cassady Becker earned Ashland's first hat trick of the spring, scoring three times and adding an assist. Another junior midfielder, Natalie Sonntag, added two goals and an assist.
- Recording two goals and two assists each were junior midfielder Madie Gash and senior midfielder Cora Wilson. Freshman attacker Camryn English rounded out AU's offensive output with a goal and an assist.
- Senior goalkeeper Nadine Elbarrad made 10 saves in the net.
- Northern Michigan out-shot Ashland by a 34-24 count.
