Starting the 2022 spring season on Saturday (Feb. 5) at the Aspen Racquet Club in nearby Wooster, Ashland University's men's tennis team split a pair of non-conference matches.
The Eagle men lost 4-3 to West Liberty, then defeated Wooster by the same count thanks to a singles win from freshman
Omar Prince.
WHAT HAPPENED
- Prince's victory by a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (12-10) count at No. 5 singles clinched the win over the Fighting Scots. Ashland's two other singles victories came from freshman William Rassat at No. 2 (6-1, 6-3), and freshman Fabian Bussard at No. 4 (6-3, 7-6 (7-4)).
- The Eagles earned the doubles point against Wooster thanks to wins from Rassat/Bussard at No. 2 (6-3), and junior Jacob Hoffman and senior Tche Kun Teng at No. 3 (6-4).
- Against West Liberty, senior Stuart Brdicka at No. 1 (6-3, 6-2) and senior Jordan Phelps at No. 3 (6-3, 6-4) were the AU singles victories, and the Eagles earned the doubles point thanks to wins from Brdicka/Phelps at No. 1 (6-3) and Hoffman/Teng at No. 3 (7-5).
UP NEXT
Ashland will return to Wooster on Saturday (Feb. 12) at 1 p.m. to take on future Great Midwest Athletic Conference foe Northwood.
