Baseball Wins Season Opener At Salem, 13-4

Four innings with crooked numbers worth of runs helped Ashland University's baseball team open the 2022 season with a 13-4 win at Salem on Friday (Feb. 25) at the Frank Loria Invitational.

The Eagles (1-0) scored two runs each in the top of the first, third and seventh innings, then capped the victory with a six-spot against the Tigers (1-6) in the top of the ninth.

THE WRAP-UP
  • Pacing the 14-hit attack were three Eagles with three hits each. Senior third baseman Tim Zeller was 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs; senior first baseman Micah Allen was 3-for-4 with a round-tripper, two doubles, three runs scored, three RBIs and a pair of walks; and senior second baseman Logan Moss came in as a sub and went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
  • Junior right-hander Josh Meyer came in and pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief to earn the victory, allowing three hits, two runs (one earned) and two walks and striking out two. Senior lefty Alex Bish earned the save by getting the last four outs.
