No. 5 Eagles Earn 900th All-Time Win At Indianapolis

Ashland University's women's basketball team has won a lot of games since 1967.

Yet another victories milestone for the Eagle women came on Sunday (Nov. 13) afternoon, as they defeated Indianapolis on the road, 87-49, for all-time win No. 900.

The No. 5-ranked women are 2-0 to start the young season, while the Greyhounds are 0-2.

Another win note from Sunday is head coach Kari Pickens' 107th as AU head coach moving her into second place alone on the program's all-time list.

Ashland has started a season 2-0 every year since 2015.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Ashland ran out to a 21-3 lead after the first quarter, thanks in large part to 5-of-10 shooting from 3-point range. Three of those triples came from fifth-year guard Hallie Heidemann. Also in the first 10 minutes, the Eagles kept the Greyhounds to 1-of-12 shooting from the floor.
  • By halftime, Ashland's advantage was 40-21, with the Eagles hitting half of their shots from the field in the second quarter. Indy's 15 turnovers in the first 20 minutes resulted in 21 AU points.
  • Thanks to 11-of-15 from the field in the third quarter, the Eagles' advantage grew to 30 points going into the final period, 68-38, and Ashland went on to victory from there.

THE WRAP-UP
  • Both Heidemann and senior forward Annie Roshak scored 18 points in the victory. Heidemann moved into 16th place on Ashland's all-time scoring list with 1,240 career points.
  • Off the bench, junior guard Macy Spielman (12 points) and sophomore forward Zoe Miller (11 points) rounded out four Eagles in double-digit scoring.
  • The Eagles shot 54.2 percent from the field on the afternoon, rallied for a 45-40 rebound advantage, and scored 31 points off 24 Indy turnovers.
  • Ashland is 21-0 all-time as the No. 5-ranked team in NCAA Division II, and is 34-1 in November games since 2015.
