Parkside Scores Three Goals In Second Half To Down Eagle Men In NCAA Second Round

In the first home NCAA Division II postseason game for Ashland University's men's soccer team on Sunday (Nov. 13) afternoon, the Eagles lost to Parkside, 3-2, in a second-round contest.

Ashland's season ends at 12-7-1, while the Rangers move on to the third round of the playoffs at 12-3-4.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • In the 33rd minute, Ashland broke the scoreless tie when fifth-year forward Haruki Kimura lifted a shot into the top right corner of the Ranger net. Kimura's 11th goal of 2022 put the Eagles on top, and they stayed there at the half.
  • Ashland played a man up since the 38th minute following a Parkside red card, but, in the 60th minute, the Rangers knotted the game at 1 on a header from Lars Popp on a free kick from Marcos Calderon Jimenez.
  • The Eagles had the answer in the 65th minute when sophomore forward Jake Grove took a cross from junior midfielder Vander Rocha and put AU ahead again at 2-1. For Grove, it was goal No. 5 of the season; for Rocha, his seventh assist.
  • In the 81st minute, Parkside tied the game again, this time at 2 on a corner kick from Edgar Heredia Victoria which curled into the Eagle goal. The Rangers took a 3-2 lead in the 87th minute when Osvaldo Sanchez Arellano put a goal left to right for the eventual game-winner.

THE WRAP-UP

  • A spirited contest saw a combined 31 shots, 31 fouls, five yellow cards and two red cards.
