In the first home NCAA Division II postseason game for Ashland University's men's soccer team on Sunday (Nov. 13) afternoon, the Eagles lost to Parkside, 3-2, in a second-round contest.
Ashland's season ends at 12-7-1, while the Rangers move on to the third round of the playoffs at 12-3-4.
WHAT HAPPENED
- In the 33rd minute, Ashland broke the scoreless tie when fifth-year forward Haruki Kimura lifted a shot into the top right corner of the Ranger net. Kimura's 11th goal of 2022 put the Eagles on top, and they stayed there at the half.
- Ashland played a man up since the 38th minute following a Parkside red card, but, in the 60th minute, the Rangers knotted the game at 1 on a header from Lars Popp on a free kick from Marcos Calderon Jimenez.
- The Eagles had the answer in the 65th minute when sophomore forward Jake Grove took a cross from junior midfielder Vander Rocha and put AU ahead again at 2-1. For Grove, it was goal No. 5 of the season; for Rocha, his seventh assist.
- In the 81st minute, Parkside tied the game again, this time at 2 on a corner kick from Edgar Heredia Victoria which curled into the Eagle goal. The Rangers took a 3-2 lead in the 87th minute when Osvaldo Sanchez Arellano put a goal left to right for the eventual game-winner.
THE WRAP-UP
- Sophomore goalkeeper Ty Bowden made four saves for the Eagles.
- A spirited contest saw a combined 31 shots, 31 fouls, five yellow cards and two red cards.
