In its second game in as many days at Parkside's The Nexus Classic, Ashland University's men's basketball team lost to the host Rangers, 74-66, on Saturday (Nov. 12) night.
The Eagles are 0-2 on the young season, and Parkside is 2-0.
WHAT HAPPENED
- There wasn't much wiggle room between the Eagles and Rangers in the first half, until the very end, that is. Trailing 30-29, Ashland scored the half's last eight points to go into the locker room leading 37-30.
- Ashland shot 50.0 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes, which saw nine lead changes and three ties.
- Up 40-34 early in the second half, the Eagles saw Parkside go on a 12-0 run to regain the lead and force an AU timeout. The Rangers' lead increased to 11 at 56-45 after the first eight minutes of the second half.
- A layup from sophomore forward Stefan Stanic made it a 69-62 AU deficit inside of the three-minute mark, then a layup from junior center Victor Searls cut the Parkside lead to five at 69-64 after an 8-0 run. Unfortunately, the Eagles ran out of time and couldn't get any closer.
THE WRAP-UP
- Searls ended with career highs in both points (16) and rebounds (six, tied). Senior guard Brandon Haraway's 13 points move him into 24th place on AU's all-time scoring list with 1,119. Haraway was named to the all-tournament team.
