The Ashland University baseball team got out to a big lead and led wire-to-wire to finish a series sweep of Parkside with a 15-7 win on Sunday (May 2) afternoon in Kenosha, Wis.
The Eagles scored 75 runs in the four-game series and set program and GLIAC records for runs and hits in their 32-11 win in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.
On Sunday, the Eagles (19-12, 14-6 GLIAC) slugged four two-run home runs, giving them 12 home runs in the series.
They led 6-1 after the top of the third and held a 13-2 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning.
Junior
Micah Allen hit a two-run homer in the third inning to give the Eagles a 6-1 lead and senior
Garett Robberts made it 8-2 with a home run in the fifth.
Senior
Michael Rogers blasted a homer in the sixth to cap a four-run inning, and junior
Dillan Smith came on late and hit a two-run homer to finish the scoring in the ninth.
Senior
Carson Mittermaier had two RBI while juniors
Logan Stoldt and
Logan Moss and freshman
Devin Hukill also drove in runs.
Sophomore
Michael McBriar got the start and allowed two runs in three innings while striking out three. Junior
Josh Stover (3-4) got the win with two shutout innings of relief.
Junior
Perry Bewley picked up his ninth save with three shutout innings. Six of the nine hitters he retired came via strikeout.
The Eagles have now won five in a row and 10 of their last 12 games while winning each of their last three GLIAC series.
They will look to continue that success next weekend when they travel to Grand Valley State for a four-game set that starts on Friday (May 7) in Allendale, Mich.
