Ashland University's softball team returned to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday (April 10), losing to Saginaw Valley State by 6-5 and 5-3 counts.

In Game 1, the Eagles (3-13 overall, 0-6 GLIAC) put up back-to-back two-run innings in the top of the fifth and sixth to take a 5-3 lead, but the Cardinals (16-6, 5-4) rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth, and the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Alexis Lavdis each had two RBIs, Krinn and Lavdis each drove in two runs, and Lavdis hit a home run. Freshman pitcher
Jillian Middleton (0-6) yielded nine hits, six runs (four earned) and two walks and struck out one in six innings.

In Game 2, SVSU scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to inch away from Ashland. Krinn was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and senior second baseman
Emma Lawson was 2-for-3 and scored a run. Sophomore pitcher
Kayla Ruperto (2-4) gave up eight hits, five runs (three earned) and two walks and whiffed two in 5 1/3 frames.

Ashland will stay in Michigan to take on Wayne State (14-6, 7-5) in Detroit on Monday (April 12) at 3 p.m.
