Spirited First Half Not Enough In Lacrosse Loss To Panthers

Ashland University's lacrosse team played undefeated Davenport to a near draw in the first half of Friday (March 26) afternoon's home game at Ferguson Field, but the Eagles eventually lost to the Panthers, 23-10, in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.

The Eagles are 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the GLIAC, while the Panthers are 4-0, 1-0.

Ashland trailed Davenport 9-7 after the game's first 30 minutes, highlighted by keeping DU off the scoreboard for the game's first 7:33, but the Panthers came out and scored the first five goals of the second half and didn't look back.

Sophomore midfielder Natalie Sonntag and freshman attacker Emily Jewell each had two goals for the Eagles on Friday, and senior attacker Ashley Merritt posted a goal and two assists.

Freshman goalkeeper Jillian Rekulak had a career-high 16 saves in the net for Ashland.

The Eagles and Panthers will play once again at Ferguson Field on Sunday (March 28) at noon.
