The Ashland University volleyball team turned in a solid performance and swept visiting Davenport, 25-20, 28-26, 25-16, on Saturday (Feb. 20) evening at Kates Gymnasium.
The Eagles (2-0 GLIAC) took both matches from the Panthers (0-2) on the weekend, dropping just one set.
On Saturday, the AU defense was solid, holding Davenport to just .118 hitting on the night.
In the first set, Davenport overcame a 17-14 deficit to take a 19-18 lead, but the Eagles scored seven of the last eight points, including the last five to earn the 25-20 win. Junior
Zoey Peck had the winning kill.
That roll continued into Set 2 as the Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead before a Davenport timeout stopped the run. The Panthers brought it all the way back and even took an 18-16 lead.
Junior
Erin Krupar eventually saved set point with a kill before an error gave the Eagles a 25-24 lead.
The teams then traded points for a few rallies before seniors
Lexi Lombardo and
Brooke Peiffer finished it with back-to-back kills.
The Eagles rolled in the third set as freshman
Katie Thompson served the Eagles to a 5-0 run that gave them a 6-2 lead. AU extended the lead to 15-6 on a kill by senior
Courtney Rosebrook and did not look back, winning it, 25-16.
Krupar led the Eagles with 15 kills (.222) and Peiffer joined her in double figures with 11 kills (.111). Peck did not miss a triple-double by much, finishing with six kills (.545), 29 assists and 16 digs.
Thompson led the back row with 19 digs while junior
Sophie Dahn chipped in with 13.
