Trevor Bassitt has a busy summer in front of him. He's going to be occupied for much of the next several weeks re-arranging his trophy case.
Wednesday (June 24), it was announced that Bassitt was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) NCAA Division II Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Academic All-America Team. Bassitt is a member of the Second Team. He is a sport management major with a 3.36 grade point average.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America Team is selected by sports information directors from around the country.
Bassitt is the fifth AU student-athlete to garner Academic All-America laurels this year. He joins football's
Clay Shreve (First Team), women's basketball's
Jodi Johnson (Second Team), baseball's
Carson Mittermaier (Third Team) and wrestling's
Bret Romanzak (Third Team).
Bassitt had a phenomenal indoor track and field season. He was named the NCAA Division II Male Track Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Three times he was tabbed as that organization's national NCAA Division II male track athlete of the week.
The native of Lima, OH, was also named the Midwest Region Male Track Athlete of the Year and the GLIAC Male Track Athlete of the Year. He was an all-region selection in four events. At the GLIAC indoor championships he won conference titles in the 60 hurdles, 400 dash and 4X400 relay.
The AU men's indoor track and field team went to the NCAA Championships ranked fifth in the country. That unit was the defending NCAA Division II national champion. Although the championships were canceled, there is no way to wipe out Bassitt's numbers. He went to the championships ranked first in the nation in the 400 (46.33 seconds) and the 60 hurdles (7.75 seconds). He was second in the 200 (20.80 seconds) and third in the 4X400 relay (3:11.11). Bassitt was scheduled to compete in all of those events at the national meet.
Worldwide, Bassitt was ranked 21
st in the 200, tied for 33
rd in the 400 and tied for 67
th in the 60 hurdles.
Bassitt is a two-time national champion and a five-time All-American.
