AU Men Come Up Short At USI

Ashland University's men's tennis team lost at the University of Southern Indiana on Saturday (Feb. 29).

The Eagles (4-5 overall) came up short to USI, 5-2.

AU had one winning team in doubles play, as the No. 1 squad of sophomore Stuart Brdicka and sophomore Jordan Phelps cruised to a 6-2 win.

Brdicka also picked up a win in singles play, as he won a grueling three-setter at No. 1 singles. He claimed the first set, 7-6, but lost the second, 6-7. After two lengthy sets, Brdicka prevailed in the third set to win the match, 7-6, 6-7, 6-2.

Senior Priyank Soni earned the other win on the day for AU. Soni won his No. 2 match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

The Eagles will play next on Thursday (March 5) at home against McKendree at 11 a.m.
