Ashland University's men's tennis team lost a close match on Saturday (Feb. 15) at Hillsdale.
The Chargers (3-0 overall) eked out a win against Ashland (3-2), 4-3.
"Excellent fight today by everyone," said Interim Director of Tennis Operations Christian Hamilton. "Hillsdale is a very strong team and we competed hard against them.
The Eagles gained the early advantage, winning two of three doubles matches to earn an early point. At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Stuart Brdicka and sophomore Jordan Phelps won their match, 6-2. More of the same success was had at No. 3 doubles, as senior Priyank Soni and freshman Jacob Hoffman earned a 6-3 result.
"Our doubles play today showed that we can compete with any team on our schedule," said Hamilton.
Ashland was only able to find two winners in singles play, as the Chargers were dominant in the No. 3 through No. 6 matches, winning them all in straight sets. Brdicka won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-3. Soni also earned another match win on the day, a 6-4, 6-4 triumph at No. 2 singles.
"Stu and Priyank continue to play consistent, exceptional singles for us, showing their leadership for this team," said Hamilton.
