THE TURNING POINT: Ashland didn't waste any time on Friday, winning the first set of the first match against Charleston (W.Va.), 25-13.
STAT OF THE DAY: The Eagles had a higher hitting percentage than their opponents in all seven sets on Friday.
On Friday (Sept. 2) at the Angelina Miele Memorial Tournament in Lock Haven, Pa., Ashland University's volleyball team improved to 3-0 on the young 2016 season following wins against Charleston (W.Va.), 3-0, and California (Pa.), 3-1.
In the 25-13, 25-21, 25-18 victory over Charleston, senior outside hitter Casey Clark recorded 13 kills and 11 digs, while senior outside hitter Alli Cudworth narrowly missed a double-double (11 kills, nine digs). Junior defensive specialist Melanie Aguayo had a team-high 13 digs, while sophomore setter Kayla Pfeiffer added 34 assists.
Ashland had a .383 hitting percentage to Charleston's .200.
In the 25-16, 25-18, 23-25, 26-24 win over Cal, Cudworth had 21 kills, eight digs, three block assists and three service aces, while Clark chipped in with 10 kills and 14 digs. Pfeiffer had 41 assists and 11 digs, while Aguayo led AU again with 18 digs.
The Eagles kept Cal to a .127 team hitting percentage.
UP NEXT: Saturday (Sept. 3) at 1 p.m. against Shepherd to finish the Angelina Miele Memorial Tournament.
