Box Score In a nip-and-tuck 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener Friday (Sept. 18) night at Kates Gymnasium, Ashland University's volleyball team defeated Findlay, 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 29-27, 25-22).
The Eagles move to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the GLIAC with their second win in a row, while the Oilers drop to 6-3, 0-1.
After losing the first set, Ashland came out with an improved defense which kept Findlay to a team hitting percentage of .105 in the final three sets.
In the third set, down 27-26, AU rallied to score the final three points and go up 2-1 in the match.
Junior outside hitter Alli Cudworth led the Eagle offense with 19 kills, and fellow junior outside hitter Casey Clark (12) and senior middle blocker Samantha Zuber (11) also finished in double figures. Junior setter Mallory Slyder had 44 assists, and freshman libero Kaitlin Bean led the defensive effort with 12 digs.
Ashland will finish the home GLIAC weekend on Saturday (Sept. 19) at 2 p.m. against Hillsdale (7-1, 1-0).
