Box Score Ashland University's women's basketball team opened the Robyn Fralick era in winning fashion, taking a 62-43 decision from Cedarville in the first day of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/Great Midwest Athletic Conference Challenge in Philippi, W.Va.
The No. 15-ranked Eagles began the game on a 10-0 run and never trailed.
Sophomore center Laina Snyder picked up where she left off as a freshman, posting a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds and adding five steals and two blocks. Junior guard Kelsey Peare added 12 points (10 in the first quarter). Sophomore forward Andi Daugherty chipped in with eight rebounds and three blocks, and junior guard Alex Henning recorded nine points, three assists and five thefts.
AU outrebounded the Yellow Jackets, 41-31, and forced 21 turnovers.
Ashland is 31-7 in its last 38 games against non-conference opponents, and has won three of its last four season-openers.
The Eagles will conclude play in the GLIAC/GMAC Challenge on Saturday (Nov. 14) at 3 p.m. vs. Alderson Broaddus.
