Box Score The Oilers of Findlay downed the Eagles 3-1 tonight at Croy Gymnasium. Ashland is now 0-5 on the season and 0-1 in the GLIAC. Ashland lost, 23-15, 25-17, 25-15, 25-9.
Findlay improves to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Both teams traded points during the first set. Findlay was up 12-10, but a service error interrupted it's rhythm making the score 12-11. The Eagles led 24-23 after a service error and a bad set helped Findlay get within one. AU called a timeout and closed out the set 25-23 with a kill by Samantha Zuber from Katie Seifert.
The Eagles lost momentum after winning the back and forth first set. UF quickly went up 14-9 in the second. The Eagles closed the gap and got within four thanks to a kill by Casey Clark, the score 18-14. Findlay slipped away with the second set, 25-17.
As the set progressed early on the score remained even. After the 10-10 mark Findlay began to control the third set. A service error by UF put Ashland back on offense, the score, 23-15. Findlay closed out the set 25-15, with two straight kills by Hannah Tong.
UF remained strong in what would be the fourth and final set of the match. The Oilers came out with a monster 15-3 lead. Sophomore Rylee Scott helped AU make the score 18-7. The set ended 25-9.
Findlay was led by Tong and Andrea Roach, both tallied double-digit kills. The Oilers held AU to a .069 hitting percentage on the night.
Clark and Alli Cudworth led the Eagles. Clark recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 kills and 13 digs. Cudworth added 10 kills.
Ashland plays again tomorrow (Saturday, September 13) afternoon at 2:00 pm against Hillsdale College.
