Box Score Ashland University's volleyball team lost Saturday afternoon (Nov. 8) at home to Findlay, as the Eagles saw their four-match winning streak snapped in a tightly-contested matchup (25-22, 25-19, 21-25, 18-25, 15-9).
"The way that we competed again, the entire match, it shows the growth in us," said Ashland head coach Cass Dixon. "The maturity we've gained over the last 3-4 weeks has been instrumental in the way we've played as a team."
Ashland finishes the season at 10-15 overall and 10-8 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while Findlay is 22-6, 15-3. The Eagles missed out qualifying for the GLIAC Tournament on tiebreakers.
The Oilers ran out to a 10-1 lead in the first set, but Ashland worked the score to a 21-all tie before Findlay ultimately won and went ahead. The second set saw an 11-11 tie before Findlay took a 2-0 lead.
Ashland came out fast in the third set, going up 7-2, 14-8 and 20-13 before fending off a late Oiler change. The fourth set was nip-and-tuck, but the Eagles pulled away late to force a fifth and deciding set.
Findlay was ahead just 5-4 in that final set, but then was ahead by five points on several occasions before closing out the set and the match.
Sophomore Alli Cudworth paced the AU offense with 19 kills, while junior Samantha Zuber added 10 kills. Freshman Kilee Kimmel had a team-high 18 digs, and sophomore Casey Clark added 10. Sophomore Katie Siefert had 48 assists.
