Give the Ashland University volleyball team credit for digging deep into its reserves on Saturday. In a match against Wayne State, the Eagles fell behind, 2-0, losing, 25-21 and 25-20. AU rallied to knot the match at 2-2, taking the next two sets, 25-19 and 25-22.
At that point, the match's momentum was there for the taking. The score was tied, 7-7 in the final set and when the Eagles scored the next two points for a 9-7 lead, it looked like they were going to make it all the way back from that 2-0 deficit.
It was at that point that AU began running on empty. WSU put a surge together to go in front, 12-9. AU got no closer than two points the rest of the way and lost, 15-10. The match was tied 26 times and there 17 lead changes.
