Box Score The AU volleyball team ran its winning streak to eight matches on Friday night (Nov. 15), winning at Wayne State, 3-1.
The victory couldn't come at a better time for the Eagles. They are locked in a crowded battle to secure one of the four top spots in the eight-team GLIAC Tournament. The tourney begins on Wednesday. Entering Friday night, Ashland, Northwood, Ferris State and Northern Michigan were all fighting it out with Grand Valley State for the top spots.
This win in Detroit will help AU's cause. Ashland has one match remaining. That's Saturday evening at Findlay.
The Eagles are 22-6, 14-3 in the GLIAC. The Eagles handled the Warriors, 27-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25-23. This was the second meeting of the year between the teams. On Sept. 21 in Ashland the Warriors won, 3-2.
Alli Cudworth, who has played extremely well down the stretch, gave the Eagles another stellar performance. She led all players in the match with 26 kills. Casey Clark had 15 kills and nine digs and Shelly DeHenning had 45 assists. Marci Zegarac had 14 digs and Megan Rohlfs had 11 digs.
Wayne State (10-18/7-10) was paced by Kristen Bulkiewicz's 17 kills and 11 digs.
