Box Score The AU volleyball team lost, 3-2 on Friday (Oct. 25) to Missouri-St. Louis on the opening day of play at the GLIAC-GLVC Crossover. The match was played in Aurora, Ill.
The Tritons won the first set, 3-2. The Eagles won the next two, 26-24, 26-24. The fourth set was another tense affair that went to UMSL, 25-23. In the fifth and deciding set, an early AU lead was wiped out by UMSL, which won, 15-9.
This was the second meeting of the season between these teams. In the season-opening Ferris State Bulldog Invitational the Eagles won, 3-0.
The Eagles are 14-6. UMSL is 13-9.
The first three sets on Friday were all tied, 24-24. In the fifth set, the Eagles had a 3-2 lead when the Tritons reeled off six consecutive points for a 9-3 lead. AU could never recover from that salvo.
Casey Clark had a double-double with 27 kills and 17 digs. Shelly DeHenning had 70 assists and 10 digs. Maureen Johnson posted 15 kills.
Chelsea Burkle had 20 kills and 13 digs for the Tritons. Haley Brightwell finished with 12 kills and 15 digs and Emily Bragaw had 25 digs.
The Eagles will play twice on Saturday. They are matched against Truman State and Missouri S&T. Truman State is ranked 15th in the country and lost to Grand Valley State on Friday.
