Box Score The Ashland University volleyball team bowed out of the GLIAC Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 17) with a 3-0 loss to Northwood. The Timberwolves, the top seed in this tournament, stopped the Eagles, 25-20, 26-24, 25-23.
AU reached the tournament semifinals with a come-from-behind, 3-2 win over Northern Michigan last Wednesday. The Eagles couldn't regain that momentum against Northwood (25-6), which is ranked second in the region and was playing on its home floor.
AU junior Kate Eckels (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) had 13 kills, 12 digs and two service aces to pace the Eagles. Junior Marci Zegarac (Lansing, Ill./South) had a team-high 16 digs.
NU's Juliia Pakhomenko had 13 kills and 10 digs to pace the 'Wolves.
Ashland is 23-8 and is ranked sixth in the region. To reach the NCAA playoffs, AU must be ranked in the region's top eight. The playoff field will be unveiled on Sunday (Nov. 18) evening.
Also on Saturday, the Eagles learned that they had four All-GLIAC selections. Senior Brittany Snider (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) was named to the All-GLIAC first team. Zegarac and senior setter Crystal Elliott (Canal Winchester, Ohio) were named to the All-GLIAC second team. Junior middle blocker Baley Bernthisel (Grand Rapids, Ohio/Otsego) was named to the All-GLIAC honorable mention list.
Snider is the GLIAC leader in kills and kills per set and Elliott leads the conference in assists per set.
