Box Score The Ashland University volleyball team dropped a 3-2 match to Findlay on Saturday (Nov. 13) at Kates Gymnasium. This was the final regular season match of the season.
The loss put an end to a six-match winning streak for Ashland.
The GLIAC playoffs begin this coming week and the Eagles, who are 22-7 and 12-6 in the GLIAC, will play Northern Michigan on Wednesday (Nov. 14, 7 p.m.). AU is the fourth seed in the eight-team tourney and NMU is fifth. Earlier this year, the Eagles defeated the Wildcats, 3-2.
Ashland got off to a good start, winning the first set, 25-17. Findlay rebounded for a 25-23 win, which tied the contest, 1-1. The Oilers won the third set, 25-21 and the Eagles tied the match with a 25-21 verdict in the fourth set. In the deciding fifth set, Findlay was a 15-8 winner.
Findlay (14-16/10-8), which is the eighth seed in the upcoming conference tournament, got 15 kills from Lindsy Reindel, 11 kills from Danielle Taflinger and 10 kills from Maggie Naayers.
Senior outside hitter Brittany Snider (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) led all players in the match with 26 kills. She also had 13 digs. Junior middle blocker/outside hitter Baley Bernthisel (Grand Rapids, Ohio/Otsego) had 15 kills and junior defensive specialist Megan Rohlfs (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) had a team-high 29 digs. Senior setter Crystal Elliott (Canal Winchester, Ohio) had 51 assists.
