ASHLAND, Ohio – The AU volleyball team suffered a straight-set defeat at California (Pa.) on Wednesday (Nov. 3) night in nonconference action.
The Eagles (16-11, 9-8 GLIAC) were led by freshman Kate Eckels (Loveland, Ohio/Mt. Notre Dame), who finished with 15 kills in the match. She hit .314 and had just four errors in the match. Eckels also had nine digs.
Junior Anesia Benton (Lima, Ohio/Senior) had seven kills, while senior Sophie Paddock (Girard, Ohio/Hubbard) and freshman Susannah Jonas (Harrison, Ohio) each finished with five.
Sophomore Crystal Elliott (Canal Winchester, Ohio) had a match-high 30 assists in the match and junior Arian Martin (Independence, Ohio) had a match-high 22 digs.
Three Vulcans (20-10) finished with six or more kills, led by Kelly Fromknecht, who hit .312 with seven kills. Fromknecht and Abbey Freund had 16 assists apiece.
The Eagles will now finish the regular season schedule with a pair of GLIAC road games, beginning with Ohio Dominican on Friday (Nov. 5) at 7 p.m.
