Slade Denman

AT ASHLAND UNIVERSITY
  • Denman is in his first year as Ashland University's Director of Bands.
BEFORE ASHLAND UNIVERSITY
  • He comes to Ashland from the University of Pikeville, where he servedin the same capacity. 
  • At Pikeville, Denman also was an Assistant Professor of Music. He directed the Concert Band, Marching Band, Rock Band, and Jazz Band. During his time at UPIKE, he played a pivotal role in growing and guiding the university's instrumental music program, and creating the new Music Education and Performing Arts degrees that are now offered there.
  • Before his time in Kentucky, Denman served as Professor of Instrumental Studies at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, where he led the Wind Ensemble, Ram Band, and taught courses in conducting and music education.
  • Denman is currently completing his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Wind Conducting at the University of North Texas. While at UNT, he taught undergraduate conducting, led the Concert and University Bands, and served as Teaching Fellow with the Green Brigade Marching Band and Pep Band.
  • His time at his alma mater included work with the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, University Band, and the famed Marching 110 — where he contributed drill writing, music arrangements, and instructional support.
  • Earlier in his career, Denman was Director of Bands at Allen East Local Schools in Harrod, Ohio, overseeing a robust program of 250 music students. He founded the district's first jazz band and piano lab, led the Mustang Marching Brass to continued competitive success, and supported musical theater and show choir programs.

  • Denman is the Founder, Artistic Director, and Conductor of the Mountain Arts Center Wind Orchestra — a professional regional wind ensemble that brings together the top musicians from Appalachia and beyond.
