Mark DeLaney

AT ASHLAND UNIVERSITY

  • DeLaney is in his second year on the Ashland University men’s basketball staff.
  • During his time as student at Ashland University, he served as an assistant varsity coach at Ashland High School under head coach Chris Stokes (2003-05).
  • In DeLaney’s senior year, he followed coach Stokes to Wooster High School to be the head freshmen coach (2005-06).

BEFORE ASHLAND UNIVERSITY

  • DeLaney has served as a high school boys varsity basketball coach for six years (91-47 overall), twice being named Central District Coach of the Year.
  • He served as assistant coach at Cedarville (2006-07). The team won the American Mideast Conference (AMC) South Division and advanced to the NAIA Division II Elite Eight with a final record of 23-8.
  • DeLaney served as a graduate assistant at Northern State University under head coach Don Meyer (2008-09). The Wolves made the NCAA Central Regional tournament with a final record of 19-11. During the season, Meyer surpassed Bob Knight as the all-time winningest coach in NCAA history with 903 wins.
  • DeLaney served as assistant coach at Grace College in 2009-10. The team advanced to the NCCAA Final Four, ending the season with a 17-16 record.

PERSONAL

  • Before transferring to Ashland, DeLaney played basketball for current AU head coach John Ellenwood at Ohio Wesleyan University.
  • DeLaney obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education (2006) from Ashland and Masters of Education in Administration (2009) from Northern State University, South Dakota.
  • He is a 2002 graduate of Clear Fork High School, winning the school’s first basketball state championship in Division III. DeLaney was named an All-Ohioan and OHSAA Division III Tournament Most Valuable Player.
  • DeLaney was inducted into Clear Fork’s Hall of Fame in 2010, and holds the schools 3-point records, single game (seven) and season (65).
