AT ASHLAND UNIVERSITY
  • Kruger is in his fourth season as head track and field coach in 2025-26.
  • In 2024-25, he guided the Eagle track and field program to three Great Midwest Athletic Conference championships - two on the women's side and the outdoor title on the men's side. For all three, Kruger was named conference Coach of the Year.
  • Nationally, Ashland finished 12th (men) and tied for 12th (women) at indoor nationals, then 16th (women) and tied for 33rd (men) outdoors.
  • The 2023-24 season saw Kruger lead the Eagle women to the Great Midwest Indoor Championship at home - the women's team's first indoor conference title in 28 years. Kruger was named Great Midwest women's indoor Coach of the Year.
  • Ashland athletes turned in five NCAA Division II All-American efforts in 2023-24.
  • In his first year back on campus, Kruger led the Eagles to third place (men) and fourth place (women) at the 2023 Great Midwest Indoor Championships at home, and third (men) and tied for third (women) at the 2023 Great Midwest Outdoor Championships at home.
  • Ashland had four D-II All-American performances in 2022-23.
  • Previously served at AU for 13 years training, coaching and teaching on campus, including stints as head strength and conditioning coach and assistant throws coach.
BEFORE ASHLAND UNIVERSITY
  • Prior to returning to AU, Kruger served as the throws coach for NCAA Division I South Dakota's track and field program from 2015-22, a stint which included 2018 (outdoors) and 2022 (indoors and outdoors) Summit League women's team championships.
  • Coached nine of the 12 school records in throws, and 69 top-10 program marks.
  • Three of his athletes earned six appearances to NCAA Division I nationals, earning All-American honors.
PERSONAL
  • Kruger was a member of Team USA in three Summer Olympic Games (2004, 2008 and 2012).
  • Won 14 total United States national championships, indoor and outdoor combined.
  • He is a 2001 graduate of Morningside College, and has an MBA from DeVry in 2022.
  • Has the world pentathlon record for men's ages 40-45.
  • Kruger and his wife, Laura, have two children, Geo and Marina. The family resides in Ashland.
