Ashland University's women's tennis team beat Edinboro on Sunday (March 17) in a big way, 6-1.
The Eagles had the better of the Fighting Scots the entire match. They won two of three doubles matches to earn the point in that segment, then only dropped a point in singles play.
At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Hazuki Ogino and freshman Gabriella Hudec won 6-1. The other win in doubles was at No. 3 singles, as the duo of freshman Larissa Wieser and freshman Nikhol Pluta did not face an opponent.
Moving into singles play brought more success for Ashland, as each win was in straight sets.
Hudec won her No. 2 match 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore Anna Hart earned the victory at No. 3, winning the first set 6-1. She did not play the second set as her opponent retired for the match due to injury. The third match that was played and won for Ashland was at the No. 4 spot. Ogino only dropped one game on her way to a crushing 6-0, 6-1 win.
Pluta and Wieser also earned a point each for Ashland, as they did not face an opponent in either match.
The Eagles' next match will be on the road at Oberlin on Wednesday (March 20).
